Introduction

With a burnt sienna orange tent and an oyster-colored rug instead of the usual red decor. Despite this departure, celebrities still brought their fashion A-game to the red carpet. Here are some of the trends and styles that stood out at the 2023 Oscars.

Jay Ellis and Harvey Guillen both made a statement with their textured black tuxedos. Ellis wore a custom Fendi tuxedo with shiny beading on the jacket, while Guillen donned an elegant black jacquard tux with wide slacks and a jacket with a long, sweeping train designed by Christian Siriano.

Brendan Fraser paired his black Giorgio Armani tux with a traditional bow tie, as did Jay Ellis and 2022 Oscar winner Questlove. Harry Shum Jr. made a statement with an Adeam tuxedo ensemble that combined East and West styles. James Hong wore a bow tie with a delightful detail referencing his film, "Everything Everywhere All at Once."

Eva Longoria wore a beaded, bejeweled Zuhair Murad gown that she referred to as a disco ball. Sigourney Weaver wore a shimmering, gold long-sleeved Givenchy gown with an animal print that glimmered like fish scales. Ariana DeBose donned a white Atelier Versace with mirror-like beading in geometric patterns.

Ruffles and Puffles

Exaggerated and airy silhouettes were popular at the 2023 Oscars. Angela Bassett wore a royal purple Jeremy Scott Moschino with puffy sleeves. Fan Bingbing and Cara Delevingne also went big on sleeves, the former in a green and silver Tony Ward Couture with a butterfly-wing silhouette and the latter in a deep crimson custom Elie Saab with a high slit and a large bow on the shoulder. Allison Williams wore her ruffles on her train in a rosy Giambattista Valli. Florence Pugh wore a gray Valentino that opened in the front to reveal a pair of black shorts.
