The fashion industry is constantly evolving and every young fashion designer plays a pivotal role in this growth. With new perspectives and fresh designs, these designers have successfully reshaped the way one sees fashion in the modern world. Several of these young minds have taken the leap of faith and started their label which has been a success. Using self-expression and their keen observations, these designers have successfully expressed gender identity, sustainability, and community through their audacious clothes. Now let’s take a look at some of these young designers, who are influencing the fashion world.
Peter Do is a Vietnamese fashion designer whose cult clean tailoring is admired and brought by celebrities, such as Beyonce, Solange, and Zendeya. Peter staged his first-ever show at New York Fashion Week last year and it is evident from his design that he is far ahead of his peers. He has been working hard to refine his collection of ready-to-wear clothes and shoes. The collection of shoes by Peter Do is manufactured in the same factory that Rick Owens uses for his extreme footwear range.
In addition to this, he has also successfully fashioned a team of individuals, who are supporting his namesake label. This group is a collective rather than the traditional top-down hierarchical order. Furthermore, he also deprioritized celebrity dressing and worked to build his label in which he focussed on boss tailoring in the early days. One of its most famous designs of Peter Do is the ivory silk slip dress designed on the mould of a 1930s screen siren with a feather corsage. This dress got the limelight when it was worn by Anya Taylor-joy on her Saturday Night Live.
Maisie Schloss is better known for her women’s fashion label Maisie Wilen which she launched in the spring of 2019. Before starting her label she worked closely with Kanye West, who later gave her seed funding for Maise Wilen, at YEEZY. This designer from Chicago has graduated from the prestigious Parsons School of Design. Her label has produced dresses that are worn by fashion personalities like Kylie Jenner, Jorja Smith, Kim Kardashian, and Christina Aguilera. For creating a successful brand within three years of her design career, she was nominated for the American Emerging Designer of the Year at the 2021 CFDA Fashion Awards.
Kenneth Ize is a Nigeria-based fashion designer whose fashion collection has been successfully reinterpreting African fashion traditions. In his namesake label that was founded in 2013, he has been working tirelessly to preserve the Nigerian craft. He has been using West African fabrics that are locally produced and thus, employing the local communities in underprivileged nations. One of their most prized designs of his was crafted using bright woven clothes called Aso Oke. Ize was also one of the finalists at the LVMH prize in 2019, and his collection was worn by Naomi Campbell on the runway at the finale of Ize’s 2020 fall collection.
Daniel Del Core is known for his fashion house named Del Core, which was founded in Milan in 2020. The core of Del Core’s projects is aesthetic vision and close relation with the environment. Del Core presented his fashion collection for the very first time at the Milan Fashion Week in 2021, where he enchanted everyone with his elegant womenswear collection. He has also worked with Gucci where he ran the VIP department, where he would be dressing up celebrities, such as Bjork and Lana Del Rey.
Charles De Vilmorin is a French designer, whose designs become the talk of the town after he launched his namesake label on Instagram during the pandemic. In his collection, which was released in April 2020, he displayed quilted jackets inspired by the work of Niki de Saint Phalle. And due to the popularity of this collection, he was invited to the GucciFest by Alessandro Michele. And in January 2021, he came out with his elegant couture collection. This twenty-four-year-old had a very quick descent and is all set to secure a top seat at the prestigious French fashion house Rochas. The first collection of De Vilmorin for the house is set to release in Spring 2022.
After claiming the best graduate collection award, he worked closely with a wide range of fashion institutions and retailers. And after working tirelessly for two years, Thebe Magugu launched his namesake label which is now a successful South African brand focusing on women’s ready-to-wear clothes. He was also the first African fashion designer who won the LVMH prize. His work celebrates the right and diverse African culture, which we can see in his clothing collections in Johannesburg. His annual zine has been completely dedicated to the people and ideas of South Africa.
Daniel W. Fletcher is known for his extensive work at big fashion houses, such as Louis Vuitton, Victoria Beckham, Burberry, and Lanvin. He has also been featured in a recent Netflix series named Next in Fashion where he successfully reached the final round, attracting fans for his menswear collection. He is currently working as an artistic director at the prestigious Italian label Fiorucci. Daniel is one of the most favored designers of celebrities like Harry Styles and has been nominated for the 2017 LVMH awards for his work.
This British-Indian fashion designer made a stunning debut at the London Fashion Week in 2017. She founded her namesake label in 2016. And has also been one of the finalists of the 2020 LVMH prize. He is known for remapping the female body in her collections and becoming famous for her body-conscious pieces of dresses. One of her dresses was worn by Dua Lipa who wore one of Supriya’s orange skirts on her birthday.
A fashion graduate from the University of Westminster, she has successfully made her presence felt in the menswear category. She displayed her graduation collection, made entirely from second-hand garments and deadstock, at the London Fashion Week in 2018. She has won several awards including the 2019 H&M Design Award and the NewGen award from the British Fashion Council.
Kaushik Valendra debuted at the London Fashion Week, in 2019, where he presented his menswear collection. His work has been successful in breaking the traditional moulds of menswear using exaggerated silhouettes which run close to one's anatomy. His design is worn by Ranveer Singh on the red carpet of BAFTA and Grammy awards. He has been nominated for the prestigious LVMH awards. He described it as one of the best things that have happened to his brand which was launched recently. He is all set to open stores for his label in Milan, Los Angeles, Paris, and New York. Kaushik has also received prestigious awards, such as the Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design.
