Portugal Fashion is the most celebrated fashion event in Portugal. It aims to bring attention to Portuguese fashion and give it visibility. This year will mark the 47th edition of the event. Portugal Fashion will be held on 15-17 October under the COVID rules and regulations. It will be held during the daytime with a limited audience and media. All the contingency measures will be taken to prevent the coronavirus spread.

Despite a limited audience, guests, designers, multimedia broadcasts, outdoor catwalks, the event still promises to show Portuguese fashion at best. Ernest W. Baker will debut at the event. Other guests include Alexandra Moura, Luís Onofre, Maria Gambina, David Catalán, Hugo Costa, Marques’Almeida, Sophia Kah, Katty Xiomara, Alves/Gonçalves, Júlio Torcato and many others. There will be a total of 24 fashion performances and shows where the fall/winter collection, footwear, clothing, accessories of the young/famous designers will be unveiled.

This event also marks Portugal Fashion’s 25th anniversary. The event will be held at Alfândega do Porto once again. However, the off location of the Neya Porto Hotel and the landscaped cloister of the Monchique convent will serve as a setting for the presentation of Sophia Kah’s latest collection on 15th October at 12:00. The same hotel will host Susana Bettencourt’s collection on 16th October at 12:00. It will continue throughout the day. These events will be streamed through video transmission, editorial format, and a presentation of the “Together We Stand” campaign on 16th October at 12:30. It will be partnered with the Association of Jewelers and Watchmakers of Portugal (AORP).

On 16th October, at 12:30, Miguel Vieira will reveal his new warm collection at Sala dos Despachantes. It will be a compliment to the video recorded in Milan during Italian fashion week. A cocktail will be launched with the creator’s signature to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Portugal Fashion. Also, the extravagant collection of the famous duo Marques’Almeida that promises to surprise the audience will be presented on 17th October at 11:00. The remaining collections and shows will be presented inside, in the rooms of the Alfândego do Porto, and the outside locations of the hotel, i.e., pier, lounge, and parking place.

The access will be restricted to business professionals, retailers, industrial partners, distributors, and journalists to ensure public protection and health safety.  The event will not exceed 200 people as per the fashion show creators. In the case of offset locations, the number of people will be less due to confined and closed space locations. A contingency plan has been designed by the health specialist Ricardo Mexia due to the restrictions of access to the Fashion show. It also defines the internal circulation, entrance control, health care provisions, organization of the vent, personal equipment for protection, and internal communication equipment. The event is planned by the recommendations of both national/ local health authorities and international best practices.

New Presentations at the Event

The restrictions of the audience will result in 25 hours of online broadcast and multimedia presentations to the off-site audience. The fall/winter collection of the Katty Xiomara, the Bloom Competition, and the Inês Torcato will be presented through video projections.

The event also has planned some unconventional presentations to deconstruct the usual catwalk format. The collection of Júlio Torcato will be presented through a performance. It will include footwear and accessories, which will be segregated into two different moments and performances. The presentation video of Alexandra Moura will be presented through the installation at the entrance of Alfandêga do Porto continuously for three days during the event.

Portugal Fashion Fall/Winter 2021

Portugal Fashion Fall/Winter 2021 is under the National Association of Young Entrepreneurs (ANJE). The event is co-financed by Portugal 2020 under the Compete 2020, the Organizational Programme for Competitiveness and Internationalization.

To conclude, we can say that the event will be a success considering all the fashion designers, young participants, video streaming, and multimedia broadcast. The event is also taking place at several locations outside and inside the infamous Alfândego do Porto. Some details of the event are still not revealed. But we at Fashinza will provide you with the latest updates of the event as and when they occur.
