The Best of Oscar de la Renta’s Fall Collection

The late Dominican couturier Oscar de la Renta’s life revolved around tending to his beautifully manicured gardens in both New York and the Dominican Republic. And it was these very gardens—full of colorful, bright flowers amidst the serene greens of the leaves and the hedges— that inspired his design sense.

Oscar de la Renta has redefined luxury clothing standards. For over 50 years, the brand has curated elegant dressings with a blend of European and American luxury. Their spring collection among their New York fashion week designs is simply out of the world. This year, they gave out showstoppers.

As if in memory of de la Renta and for the love of the fancy-free nature, co-Creative Directors Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim created a floral-inspired Fall/Winter 2021 collection.

A 34-piece lookbook featured their favorite model Candice Swanepoe paying tribute to the summers lost to the pandemic. The core element of the array seemed to be vines and pressed flowers. These were incorporated in the clothesline in collaboration with artist Tricia Paoluccio.

Bella Hadid walked the ramp as the opening and closing act for Oscar De La Renta’s Fall/Winter 2020-2021 runway show. Swanepoel headlined the collection’s finale, wearing a lavish, sweeping ballroom gown embellished with crystals.

The 2021 fall collection included a floral inspiration with a mixture of enchanting prints and embellishments to create couture with a color palette leaning towards pink, purple, saffron, and turquoise. The wide range of monochromatic dresses, suits, and evening wear had delicate bow details and a bouquet of flowers exuding elegance and style.

The materials included various techniques from crocheting to embroidery and appliques on silk, taffeta, and cotton.

Stunning Looks

Oscar de la Renta’s Fall Collection

The first look worn by Candice Swanepoel featured a peachy hue dress and floral detailing, equipped with three-dimensional color embroideries. It exuded a sense of grace and finesse.

Another favorite look featured a flower-power theme. This look featured floral tie-dye cigarette pants matched with a crisp white cotton-poplin blouse and a chic sunflower print drop waist cotton mini dress.

A white crochet long dress with flared long sleeves was appliqued with pink, purple, beige, and bright yellow flowers to create a three-dimensional effect. A white flowing gown envisioned purity and simplicity, with simple yet eye-catching black embroidery. A deep neck-cut and a thin black belt at the waistline enhanced the length and accentuated the feminine structure.

The cotton flowy floral printed gowns looked perfect for daytime wear, casual yet chic.

A sheer white gown embellished with self white patchwork, a thin black belt and a golden bow on the belt created the perfect balance. A straight A-line black dress with a similar bowed belt also cleared the infusion of bright hues and brought back the viewers to neutral ground.

Stylish single-colored coats, pant and jacket sets, A-line or flared dresses, and puffy sleeves made an entry into this Fall Collection. Necklines were round with deep cuts at the front and back with luring subtlety.

A mauve dress and top with cutouts also stole the show with its genuinity. A similar yellow shoulderless, full cut-out dress was sexy without being vulgar.

Short skater dresses in florals added some Bohemian touch, while single-colored ones in casual as well as semiformal styles lent a younger feel.

A straight-cut long dress with a tall slit to the thigh and huge ruffled tie-up sleeves and a straight long red dress with peek-a-boo bow tie-ups in front, both made a quiet mark.

A baby blue tulle bodice frock was embellished with an oversized sunflower, while tiered and ruffled skirts highlighted the female curves.

Then came a backless dark blue halter gown with silver shiny bows down the front coupled with tight dark blue pants paired, the same colored halter top and a silver tie at the neck.

Another backless halter gown that took everyone’s breath away was a sheer skin color with white embellishments all over. Fit to be a wedding gown, it reeked of sheer beauty and elegance.

Another classic de la Renta look was the crisp suits tailored with golden bows, emphasising masculine shadows in feminine strength.

Sheer long overalls, flowing wrapped dresses, big collars, pockets, belts, bows, flowers and more all accompanied each piece of couture delight.

Not Only Floral

Are you not that into flowers?

Don’t worry. Color-blocking was also a part of this collection with bright coats on dark trousers, single hues of reds, pinks, and blues with waist-cinchers shining in both color and delicate velour fabrics. School-girl skirts, lots of ruffles, and knee-high boots adorned the collection.

Make a Statement in Oscar de la Renta Evening Wear

Oscar de la Renta’s Fall Collection

There was a special evening wear section with elegant options of ‘party pieces’. These were reminders of how this Fashion House can turn a simple piece of clothing into an elegant, classy, chic and powerful ensemble.

The ruffled gowns were showstoppers that can adorn any red carpet event. Cocktail dresses were crafted with embroideries, embellishments, sequins, feathers, and everything dreamy!

Then there were colorful, voluminous maxis with crushed black taffeta and eye-catching party dresses. These dresses also came accessorized with gorgeous metal belt buckles that gave them a sophisticated look.
